Handmaking african bags
Share
The first step in the handmaking process of our african bags is the selection of the cloth, known as "chitenge" in Zambia, where our Tubombele Pamo group heads towards the Maramba market to do so.
Such selection of cloth is very important as each of the selected patterns is unique, as it is used exclusively until the cloth is finished. So once those patterns are finished, some completely new ones will be selected, so if there is one in particular that catches your eye, don't hesitate to get it. You can find them grouped by colors/tribes in the section colecciones.
Later on, the group chooses which house they should go to carry the measurement of the cloth and cutting it. It is usually Idah's house, because previously when they were members of the NGO African Impact in the women empowerment program, she was the president of the group.
Once they are cut, each of them carries home some of the cloth so that they can sew at their own pace. In any given day each of them is able of sewing around two bags.
When they finish sewing, the bags are carried to a common place to check if they have any imperfections. After they pass this inspection, the bags are ready to be packed in a box that they select and they deposit all of them there.
The last step, is bringing the box to the Fedex, courier service, who is in charge of bringing them to Spain, where after less than a week, and after passing through customs, they reach their final destination.
